What's Inside our Diaper Bag?
Our
little family loves to go out. Every weekend we find ourselves going somewhere.
Like last October, we celebrate my birthday on its first weekend, attended
South PiNanays’ 2nd Anniversary celebration on the next weekend,
went to the Momzilla bazaar on its 3rd weekend, shopped for our
Halloween party and met up with Georgina’s godparent Riza on the following
weekend, and we even travelled all the way to The Parenting Emporium in Quezon
City for a Moms Only event before the month ended. Also, every Sunday we attend
church service and afterwards we usually spend an hour or two in nearby coffee
shops for some de-stressing and future plan discussions. In all of these
excursions, our little Queen B is with us so our diaper bag must always be
ready and complete with anything we might need.
So
today I’m sharing to you the contents of our diaper bag for a day out of the
house. Since I breastfeed Georgina we are not burdened with carrying feeding
bottles and formula which make things a lot easier and lightweight for us.
The Bag
We
actually bought a diaper bag but after a month or two of using it; we decided
to use one of J’s backpack as our diaper bag instead. It can hold more things
and J (who generally have to carry the
bag whenever we go out) find it more comfortable to carry than the usual
diaper bag.

Diapers and Diaper Changing
Paraphernalia
Of
course, it wouldn’t be called a diaper bag if it doesn’t contain diapers. We
use disposable diapers whenever we are out (at
home, we use cloth diapers). When our little Queen B was still in her
newborn days, there were at least 10 diapers in the bag since newborns are
notorious for dirtying their diapers after every feeding schedule. Nowadays, I
make sure that the bag always contains at least 4 diapers. We change Georgina’s
diaper every 5-6 hours unless she pooped wherein we change it immediately. Most
of the time we only got to use 1 diaper from our stock in the bag.
We
also carry a portable changing pad, wipes, cotton balls, diaper rash cream, cleanser/soap,
and a small container of water. I have shared HERE our diaper changing routine.
Toiletries and Grooming Kit
Our
little Queen B has her own kikay kit
which contains her face cream, body lotion, cotton balls, cotton buds, Mustela PhysiObébé
(no-rinse cleansing water), cologne, hair brush, and a small nail cutter.
During
her 2nd month check-up, our pediatrician diagnosed her with atopic
dermatitis which led us to always have Mustela PhysiObébé and face cream with
us so at the very first sign of a flare up we can immediately stop it. While
the cotton buds and nail cutter are for those instances we are in a hurry to go
somewhere that I did not complete our grooming routine for Georgina.
Change of Clothes
We
bring at least two changes of clothes for our little Queen B. These are usually
onesies or pairs of blouses and bloomers. I also include a pair of socks, a
bib, 2 or 3 washcloths/burp pads, and a bonnet. So far, we still haven’t had a day
trip where we need to use both set of clothing but it is better to be always
prepared in case of emergencies.
First Aid Kit and Baby Book
Honestly, our first aid kit only contains a thermometer, alcohol wipes, anti-mosquito patches, insect bite cream, and a medicine dropper. As our baby becomes more active and mobile I know I have to make the kit more comprehensive. I’m planning to include a small bottle of Iodine solution, band-aids, gauze, bandages, tweezers, and scissors. As Georgina’s Baby Book contains her medical records we also bring it with us wherever we go.
Nursing Cover
As I
have explained before, Georgina gets easily distracted so to limit disruptions
to our nursing session I make use of the nursing cover. She only tries to
remove the nursing cover when she is done drinking her milk.
Two
weeks ago I attended a Focus Group Discussion for moms at The Parenting
Emporium in Quezon City. Since I am not familiar with the area and I don’t have
a stash of expressed milk in the freezer, J and our little Queen B have to
accompany me. While in the event, J and Georgina stayed at the nearby mall. I
was able to leave them a little more than 2 ounces of expressed milk (could have been 4 ounces but I accidentally
spilled it while still at home). Georgina was only able to finish the
bottle and nap afterwards when J bottle-fed her under the nursing cover.
Toys
Georgina is a tiny ball of energy. She likes to be always on the move. I try to encourage her to explore as much as possible but sometimes we need her to stay put and behave like when we are having dinner so a toy is a must. Her Sophie the Giraffe, a wonderful gift from my cousin Ate Eunice who bought it especially in Paris, serves as both a teether and a toy. She’ll stay put and play (actually, gnaw) with it for a while. I also bring one other toy which is either another teether or a rattle. Though honestly, like most babies my little Queen B prefer ordinary objects like spoons, plastic cups, or even ribbons as playthings.
Camera
Babies
sure do grow up very fast. It feels like it was just yesterday when my little
Queen B can barely lift her head and now she can stand without any support for
a short period of time. A camera is a must for me as I want to document my
little Queen B’s life as much as I can. Her pictures and videos are mementos
that will forever remind me of our precious moments together.
All
of Georgina’s things are packed by group in smaller pouches (transparent ones are great) for easy
access. Also, almost all her toiletries (including diaper rash cream and cleanser/soap)
are in sample or travel size. It saves space and lessens the weight of the
diaper bag. We just
refill them using our full sized stocks at home.
My
SaYa baby carrier is also a constant resident of our diaper bag. Even if we
have our stroller with us sometimes our baby wants to be carried and it is
easier and safer done when she is worn.
Yes,
travelling with a baby can sometimes be difficult but with careful planning and
a bag ready for any situation or emergency one can enjoy going out with a baby
in tow.

there anything I miss in my diaper bag? Please share the contents of your own
diaper bag at the comments section.
