Philippine Homeschool Convention 2018

Keeping abreast with the current trends and techniques is a must for a professional in any field to grow. Nowadays, the Professional Regulation Commission of the Philippines requires professionals like engineers, accountants, chemists, nurses, and teachers among others to collect a certain number of Continuing Professional Development points for renewal of their licenses. These points can be acquired through attendance of seminars and workshops related to their field.

Likewise, as parent-teachers, even though it is not required of us, it is beneficial for us and in turn our children to attend seminars and workshops related to homeschooling. It is a way to be updated with the latest homeschooling materials, to learn techniques to teach difficult topics, to discover other flavors of homeschooling we can apply in our own homeschooling journey, and to find encouragement and motivation to continue on this worthwhile endeavor. It is also a great avenue to meet other homeschooling families and develop lifelong friendships with them.

A month from now, I will be attending my third Philippine Homeschool Convention and I'm pretty excited. This year's convention is to be on September 22, 2018, at SMX Aura Convention Center in Taguig City.

Its theme "On Fire!" is inspired by a quote by Plutarch, "The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled." The organizers believe that homeschoolers' approach to education is characterized by this concept. Instead of just merely filling our children's minds with information, homeschoolers aim for an education that goes beyond the academics. We, parent-teachers, want our kids to develop in all aspects and discover their passions that will make their life meaningful and purposeful.

The tireless organizers have invited inspirational speakers and seasoned homeschooling parents who aim to rally all homeschoolers to "Light the Fire", "Fan the Flame", and "Spread the Fire" of homeschooling within their families and communities. This year's line-up of speakers include the following:

As always, I am excited to see and hear these esteemed speakers. As early as now, I have already made a list of break-out sessions I will attend.

The organizers have also invited more than 50 merchants of educational toys and materials, tutorials, and classes to the convention's expo. There will also be activities for kids for those who are bringing their children to this gathering.

The Philippine Homeschool Convention is not only for full-time homeschoolers. Even parents who send their children to regular schools will also benefit from this yearly event. The discussions will empower you to guide your children in their education.

So to all my fellow homeschoolers, parents who are considering homeschooling, and yes, even non-homeschoolers, I encourage all of you to attend the Philippine Homeschool Convention. Let's be intentional in our children's education and development.

Yours,

Lady
