Papa Nitong's 65th Birthday Celebration

The one occasion that J makes sure he will be at home in Negros is his father’s birthday. It is always a great celebration for his family. This year he is celebrating his 65th birthday.

In the year 1990, J’s Papa got involved in a shooting accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. His left leg was also amputated because of the incident which earned him the nickname Nitong Kumpol (Nitong is his real nickname while Kumpol means crippled).  Some people close to the family told J and his siblings that their father will die very soon. In the year 2009, he got hospitalized due to his kidney malfunctioning. The doctors had also warned the family that his time on Earth will be over soon. Back in 2012, he got hospitalized again twice due to tetanus and other complications. Nowadays, every week they had to go to the hospital for his weekly dialysis. Yet after all that, J’s Papa continues to fight for his life. So J and the whole family are always grateful when their dad’s birthday comes along. They are very grateful for every year added to their Papa’s life. And with the birth of our little Queen B, he had more reason to live.

Last year, J and I hosted Papa Nitong’s birthday at the Negros Museum Café in Bacolod City. We used our non-refundable down payment for our supposed to be Christian wedding reception at the Negros Museum Café. This year, the family decided to have the celebrations at their home in Bago City, a town right next to Bacolod City in the south. It is a small party with the family and closest friends.

We feasted on Pancit Canton, Lumpiang Togue, Steamed Crabs, Roasted Chicken, and everyone’s favorite Lechon. We also had Fruit Salad and Cake for our dessert.

Steamed Crabs by  J's oldest sister Ednalyn.

Papa Nitong's birthday wouldn't be complete without Lecon, the best pig ever according to Anthony Bourdain.

Instead of Papa Nitong being the center of attention, our little Queen B stole the limelight from her grandfather.

Move over Tyra Banks, Georgina can do a better SMIZE and at a much younger age too!

Happy 65th Birthday, Papa! We love you so much!
