SM Gift Registry

The practice of gift registry is something generally attributed to the rich and famous. Majority of us, Filipinos, who don’t belong to their income bracket find gift registry as something well off families only, do. I guess this notion proliferates because almost all stores that offer gift registry service sell products that are beyond the means of an average Filipino. Well, the SM Store now makes gift registry service easier and more accessible.

Two weeks ago (Sorry, my posts are long overdue because (1) it is harder to find enough time to write without distractions since my little Queen B is so active and mobile that she has to be watched constantly, and (2) our family go through a problem that I’ll share on a later post.), I along with my niece Aki and of course, my Georgina went to SM City Santa Rosa to pay off some utility bills and buy some items from the grocery. Since we still have a lot of time before we need to head home, we decided to roam around a bit and even have snacks later on. Booksale is in my list of must-visit store whenever I find myself in SM. On our way there, a saleslady from the SM Store asked me if I would like to become an audience for their short program and enticed me that they will raffle off some items to their audience. We have time to kill so I decided why not and listen to their discussion of the SM Gift Registry service. I won in the raffle so as my way of saying thank you let me share what I learned about the SM Gift Registry.

A gift registry is a wish list of what one wants to receive on a special occasion. Gift registry is commonly used during weddings to help the couple set up their marital home. Nowadays, bridal showers, baby showers, and even birthdays can have gift registries as well. This practice is introduced to avoid duplication of gifts (Who wants to receive 5 oven toasters on their wedding day?). Also, gift registries are no longer limited to cutlery and towels (if for a wedding). Modern gifts can range from spa packages to charity donations.

Admittedly, the SM Store is our, Filipinos; go to place when looking for a gift. As their slogan says, “We’ve got it all for you”, the SM Store has a wide selection of items and products. Whatever the occasion is, surely you’ll find something nice for the recipient of the gift that is within your budget. But your idea of a “nice” present might be different from the celebrant and the gift is either stored never to be used or re-gifted. To avoid this situation, SM now offers Gift Registry and it is free and comes with great deals not only for the celebrant but the giver as well!

Here are the steps to having your Gift Registry at SM:
Step 1: Create your Gift Registry either at any SM Store nationwide or online at www.smgiftregistry.com.
Parents or guardians can register for their kids.

Step 2: Choose gift items from the SM Store’s wide selection of brands and items for your wish list.
Whether you created your registry on line or in store, this part must be done in person at any SM Store.

Step 3: Tell your family and friends about your registry to get a 10% discount and earn SM Advantage Card reward points.
Part of the SM Gift Registry Kit is several copies of the Guest Discount Card. It is to be given to the guests by the registrant to serve as “invite” to the guest to check the wish list of the celebrant. Guests must present the discount card at the Gift Registry counter in order to view the items in the wish list and avail of the discount. The discount shall only be granted on items included in the wish list. The discount is valid until the event date only.
The registrant will also receive a discount card as incentive for registering in the SM Gift Registry. It must be presented to avail of the discount upon purchase of regular priced items in the SM Store. It is valid until 7 days after the event date.

Step 4: Guests may now purchase gift/s from the SM Store.

Aside from the 10% discount, if a guest uses his/her SM Advantage Card (SMAC) when purchasing an item from the wish list the registrant will also receive whatever equivalent points the guests received. Also, the SM Gift Registry offers free gift-wrapping with no minimum purchase required. They even have an exclusive set of wrappers and ribbons for any gifts purchased using the SM Gift Registry.

This Holiday season, My Christmas Wish List of SM Registry will start. As the name implies, one can create his/her gift registry for items he/she wants to receive this gift giving season. It is a good idea to give hint to our children’s godparents and relatives what present your kid will appreciate greatly this season.

J and I love looking for gifts for our loved ones on their special occasions. A wish list will definitely make our hunt easier. Of course, I hope that we use the gift registry service with consideration to our guests. Include items from a wide range of budget. May we always be reminded of this quote from Ann Patchett:

“The quality of gifts depends on the sincerity of the giver.”

Thank you SM Store for this gift!

#xoxo
